Question by alex: Army AIT wireless internet? Ft. Lee virginia?
My brother is currently attending his AIT at Ft. Lee VA. he bought a laptop because he would be allowed to use it off duty and the rumor was that they would be able to chip in for a wireless router for the company or platoon. turns out the rumor is false. He asked me to look into air cards for him but all the plans I found are 5 gigs max. He wanted to be able to use Ventrilo ( a lobby style voice over IP chat program) to talk to everybody back home and maybe catch up on some online gaming hes been missing out on. However with these data exchanges he would rack up a $ 500 bill in three days with an air card. Anybody with past experience find a solution to this or any suggestions? grad day of BCT every other private I saw was lugging a newly purchased laptop around so im sure this is a pretty common thing.

I don’t know what he’s working with or how much money he had to spend but I went to ft lee and they had wi fi over at the PX on post. All he needs is his laptop and a wireless set up. They also have internet cafes at the small PX where he can do his chat. How reliable it would be for gaming i don’t know. He frankly is in dream land if he thinks he’s going to have that much down time. He really should just study and wait till he gets to his unit. He should call home or bowl. I hate to break it but it’s mostly like boot camp for most companies at ft lee.
